Where zodiac signs describe how energy manifests (style, quality), houses describe where that energy shows up in your life (area, context). The twelve houses cover every aspect of life: the first is "the self", the second is money and values, the third is communication, the fourth is home and family, and so on.

Every planet placed in a house tells you where that planets energy has the strongest effect in your life. Venus in the second house might mean you love luxury and comfort; Venus in the seventh speaks of love and partnership.

Accurate house calculation requires a birth time to the minute — without it you cannot compute a house system (Placidus, Koch, Whole Sign, etc.).
